This original animation drawing can be seen at minute 1:07 of the short film "Mickey’s Rival" on online views. Here we can see Mortimer, an old friend of Minnie Mouse that will become "Mickey’s Rival". Underneath Mortimer’s drawing we can see a production mark on red pencil for the shade. The artwork is marked JB and numbered 46 on the lower right side.

Directed by Disney Legend Wilfred Jackson, infamous for directing films such as "Peter Pan" or "Alice in Wonderland", this short film was released on June 20th 1936. This feature is about a picnic organized by Mickey for his girlfriend Minnie, suddenly interrupted by Mortimer, a Minnie old friend that during the story becomes "Mickey’s Rival". The voices are played by Walt Disney (Mickey Mouse) and Marcellite Garner, who was the first and original voice for Minnie Mouse.

This short film is the first appearance ever of Mortimer, an arrogant mouse that tries to steal the heart of Minnie Mouse. Mortimer's name is not a coincidence: when creating Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney wanted to call him Mortimer, but Lilly, his wife, told him she did not like that name and suggested he to call the mouse Mickey. Now, "Mickey’s Rival" is named after Walt’s original idea for the company icon!

This is a unique drawing of one of the most important supporting characters of Mickey and Minnies relationship over the History of Pop Culture. A must for your Disney collection!
