Lady in "Lady and The Tramp"

1955

Disney’s first animated feature filmed in the widescreen CinemaScope format.

Lady, the refined cocker spaniel, was inspired by one of Walt Disney’s own dogs.

Her elegant design and expressive eyes reflect the gentle spirit and innocence at the heart of the film.

The movie’s iconic spaghetti dinner scene remains one of the most beloved moments in all of animation history.

Lady is stuck in her state-of-the-art muzzle in this expressive 3-peghole rough animation drawing. The full-figure image appears around the 37:43 mark of the feature film, just before Tramp leads her into the park. Rendered in graphite, the drawing is marked as 15 and features a rare Walt Disney Productions sticker in the lower right corner. Both the sticker and the visible pinholes suggest that this piece may have once been displayed—an exceptional detail that adds to its authenticity and charm.

Released in 1955, Lady and the Tramp was a landmark in Disney animation, the studio’s first film created in the widescreen CinemaScope format. The story of a pampered cocker spaniel and a streetwise mutt captured audiences with its heartfelt romance, lush backgrounds, and groundbreaking attention to perspective and space. Its timeless themes of love, loyalty, and belonging continue to resonate across generations.

Lady herself represents the grace and sincerity that defined Walt Disney’s mid-century storytelling. Her design—refined, gentle, and emotionally expressive—was meticulously developed by Disney’s animation team to convey both elegance and vulnerability. In this drawing, her uneasy expression as she struggles with the muzzle reflects the film’s delicate balance between humor and empathy, inviting viewers to connect with her on a deeply human level.

Owning an original production drawing from Lady and the Tramp is to hold a piece of cinematic history—an authentic artifact from the golden age of animation. Each graphite line captures the hand of a Disney artist bringing Lady to life, frame by frame. For collectors, this piece is not only a rare find but a timeless reminder of the artistry, innovation, and emotional warmth that make Lady and the Tramp one of Disney’s most beloved classics.
