As paper ages and is exposed to environmental factors such as light, some yellowing may occur, which is to be expected. However, we have developed an exclusive guide to ensure consistency and transparency in categorizing artwork based on the degree of yellowing. Unlike other sellers who may not provide this level of detail, we want our clients to have confidence in the artwork they acquire from us and make an informed decision about their purchase.
The guide ranges from W1 (white) to W12 (brown). For artworks before the 1950s, W1 to W5 is considered excellent, while W6 and W7 are deemed slightly yellowed yet perfectly acceptable. For artworks from the 1950s, W1 to W4 is ideal, with W5 to W6 considered a bit yellow but good enough. For both categories, any artwork beyond W9 is considered inadequate, and in any case, the lower the number, the better. Decimals may be used to indicate when a color falls between two whole numbers for more precision.
